On the third day of his campaign trail in the Kigezi sub-region, Gen. Muntu began in Kabale district, starting with Bugongi Ward, later proceeding to Kisoro stage, and subsequently heading to Rukiga district.

Speaking at a rally in Bugongi Ward, Gen. Muntu said Uganda faces a serious challenge regarding the transition and succession of power, noting that senior government leaders have largely remained silent on the issue.

Muntu, a former army commander who retired at the rank of a Major General, accused the leadership of worsening the situation through deception, fear-mongering, and the use of money instead of engaging in meaningful discussions on how to manage a peaceful transfer of power.

“Citizens must recognise their critical role in bringing about change through the electoral process, despite the challenges,” said the man who played a key role in the armed struggle that brought Museveni to power.

He added that the Kigezi sub-region and the wider western region can play a decisive role in ensuring a smooth transfer of power.

“If voters in the western region overwhelmingly reject President Museveni in the 2026 elections, it will send a powerful message to the rest of the country,” Muntu said.

Gen. Muntu is scheduled to continue his campaign in the Ankole sub-region tomorrow, beginning with Kiruhura and Kazo districts.
